The Punjab government announced the launch of its Climate Smart Watch initiative on Friday, aiming to enhance air quality monitoring and improve the province’s response to smog and climate-related challenges.

Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb, while leading a briefing in Lahore, highlighted that the government has expedited the implementation of its anti-smog strategy and placed all relevant departments on high alert to better environmental conditions throughout Punjab.

In a significant development, Aurangzeb explained that the Climate Smart Watch will offer real-time tracking of air pollution and smog levels, enabling citizens to instantly access air quality data in their vicinity. She emphasized that this initiative represents a crucial advancement in the government’s efforts to combat smog and mitigate climate change effects.

Moreover, the smartwatch will deliver early warnings about extreme weather events and heatwaves, allowing residents to take necessary precautions ahead of severe conditions.

The senior minister noted that smart technology is becoming essential in managing environmental risks, and the Punjab government plans to continue introducing digital solutions to ensure a safer environment across the province.

Meanwhile, Aurangzeb stated that the crackdown on polluters, including smoke-emitting vehicles, factories, and brick kilns, has intensified as part of the broader anti-smog campaign. Authorities are enforcing a strict zero-tolerance policy against environmental violations, imposing heavy fines and pursuing legal action against offenders responsible for air pollution.

The briefing underscored Punjab’s ongoing commitment to integrating technology with rigorous enforcement measures to improve air quality and reduce the adverse effects of smog throughout the region.
