Heavy Rain Floods Lahore, Causes Major Traffic Disruptions

On Tuesday, Lahore experienced heavy rainfall that flooded several low-lying neighborhoods and major roadways, causing significant traffic disruptions across the city. In response, authorities mobilized additional personnel to manage congestion and accelerate drainage efforts.

Water accumulated on crucial routes such as those near Mayo Hospital, Mall Road, Lakshmi Chowk, Circular Road, and Lahore Zoo, slowing down traffic and inconveniencing commuters. One of the most severely affected locations was Professor Ashfaq Ali Road, adjacent to the Lahore Metropolitan Corporation office, where standing water heavily impeded vehicle movement.

The Lahore City Traffic Police deployed extra traffic wardens throughout the city to facilitate smoother traffic flow amid the rainfall. Chief Traffic Officer Syed Abdul Rahim Shirazi instructed circle officers to maintain close coordination with the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) to ensure prompt drainage of water from flooded streets.

Additionally, Shirazi ordered the assignment of extra traffic personnel at all underpasses along Canal Road, a known hotspot for water accumulation and traffic jams during heavy rains. Wardens were also positioned in other low-lying areas to assist motorists and regulate traffic. All divisional and circle officers were directed to remain on duty in the field until normal traffic conditions were restored.

WASA teams continued drainage operations in the affected zones, working to remove stagnant water and improve road conditions. While the rain provided welcome relief from recent hot and humid weather, it also highlighted ongoing drainage issues in parts of Lahore, where even moderate rainfall frequently results in waterlogging and traffic delays.

Authorities advised motorists to exercise caution, avoid unnecessary travel through flooded areas, and adhere to traffic police instructions until the water recedes and normalcy returns.
