The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Police executed 2,004 counterterrorism operations throughout the province during the first half of the year, resulting in the arrest of 504 militants and the elimination of 182, a performance report revealed on Monday.

The report was presented at a meeting led by Zulfiqar Hameed, focusing on reviewing the overall law and order situation in KP. It highlighted the police force’s achievements in counterterrorism, crime control, and public safety during this period.

In a significant development, the report detailed that the police faced 294 attacks over six months but successfully repelled 161 of them, attributing this to effective operational planning. Additionally, the force prevented 341 drone attacks launched by militants by employing advanced anti-drone technology.

Among those detained were 14 key commanders associated with the group “Fitna al-Khawarij.” Police also seized two suicide jackets and 1,771 kilograms of explosives during various operations. Notably, KP established Pakistan’s first dedicated Police Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Division to enhance surveillance and counterterrorism efforts.

The report further revealed that 122 police personnel sacrificed their lives while performing their duties during this timeframe.

Beyond counterterrorism, the police arrested 10,718 suspects in anti-narcotics operations and apprehended 10,173 proclaimed offenders over the six months. Under the National Action Plan, 10,540 suspects were detained in security operations. Authorities also registered cases against 8,125 Afghan nationals residing illegally, who were taken into custody.

Addressing the meeting, IGP Zulfiqar Hameed emphasized that safeguarding citizens’ lives and property remains the top priority for the police. He instructed officers to maintain close coordination with other law enforcement agencies and ordered strict measures against those attempting to disturb peace.

The police chief also commended the efforts of nearly 50,000 personnel deployed during Muharram, noting their role in ensuring the peaceful observance of the month across the province. He expressed confidence that the force would continue to achieve success in operations targeting militants and criminal networks.
