Iran Vows Immediate Response if Israel Targets Its Leadership Amid Rising Tensions

Iran has issued a stern warning of an immediate and forceful response to any threats directed at its people or leadership, escalating tensions in an already volatile region. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi made the declaration on Wednesday, following provocative comments by Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz, who stated that Iran’s Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, was “marked for death.”

Addressing both Israel and its key ally, the United States, Araqchi used pointed language on the social media platform X, linking his warning directly to Katz’s statement. He criticized the US President for allegedly controlling Israel’s actions, stating that if Israel disregards US directives, Iran would take decisive action to “school them.”

Meanwhile, behind the scenes, diplomatic efforts were underway to prevent a wider conflict. US and Iranian officials engaged in technical talks in Doha on Wednesday, focusing on securing a durable ceasefire and agreeing on terms for maritime navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. This strategic waterway is a critical chokepoint for global energy supplies and has frequently been a hotspot for regional disputes.

These developments underscore the precarious state of security in the region. The direct threat against Iran’s supreme leader highlights the fragility of peace, even as diplomatic teams work to negotiate maritime safety and halt hostilities. While Washington continues indirect technical discussions with Tehran to ease tensions and protect commercial shipping lanes, the aggressive rhetoric from both Tehran and Tel Aviv reveals the deep-rooted instability that could undermine ongoing diplomatic progress.
