Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized Pakistan’s global recognition as a champion of peace, reaffirming the nation’s dedication to regional stability. He underscored the unwavering resolve of Pakistan’s armed forces to eradicate terrorism during his address at the commissioning parade of the 125th Midshipmen and 33rd Short Service Commission Course at the Pakistan Naval Academy in Karachi on Saturday.
In a significant development, the prime minister highlighted the recent Iran-US agreement, describing it as a source of national pride. The “Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding,” signed on June 17 in Burgenstock, Switzerland, was largely facilitated through Pakistan’s mediation efforts. PM Shehbaz also commended Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for his relentless commitment to fostering peace.
He acknowledged the crucial support extended by friendly nations in enabling the memorandum between Washington and Tehran. Addressing the ongoing challenge of foreign-sponsored terrorism, the prime minister reiterated that Pakistan continues to confront such threats, with its military fully committed to overcoming this menace.
PM Shehbaz praised the Pakistan Navy for its exemplary role in the Marka-e-Haq operation and noted that the government is actively working to enhance the naval forces further. He expressed satisfaction at the participation of cadets from allied countries training alongside their Pakistani peers, reflecting growing international cooperation.
During the ceremony, the prime minister presented awards to outstanding cadets: Midshipman Umar Mukhtar received the Sword of Honour for the best overall performance, Midshipman Hadi Abbas Khan was honored with the Academy Dirk, Officer Cadet Hafiz Muhammad Ahmad Munawwar earned the Chief of Defence Forces Gold Medal, and Officer Cadet Alveera Hamza of the Short Service Commission Course was awarded the Commandant’s Gold Medal.
PM Shehbaz also conducted an inspection of the parade and was welcomed with a Guard of Honour. The event was attended by senior military officials, dignitaries including Federal Ministers Khawaja Asif and Attaullah Tarar, Sindh Governor Nihal Hashmi, and the families of the newly commissioned officers.
