A 12-year-old madrassa student, Ali Haider, tragically passed away after reportedly suffering brutal physical abuse at the hands of his Quran teacher in Lahore’s Burki area. The family claims the assault occurred because Ali missed a Khatm-i-Sharif event.
Ali Haider, originally from Bahawalnagar, was enrolled at the madrassa in Lahore when the incident took place. The teacher, named Qari Ghulam Rasool, allegedly inflicted such severe beatings that Ali sustained multiple fractures in his arms and legs.
The boy was hospitalized for eight days, fighting for his life, but ultimately succumbed to his injuries. The family further alleges that following the assault, the teacher placed the critically injured child on a bus and instructed Ali’s father to pick him up.
In response, Ali’s father filed a formal complaint with Burki police, demanding the registration of a case against the teacher. He expressed his anguish, stating, “My son was killed without any fault of his. I have suffered a great injustice and want justice.” He also called on Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to intervene and take notice of the matter.
Authorities transferred the boy’s body to a morgue for a post-mortem examination and confirmed that legal action has been initiated. However, the family claims that the accused has not yet been arrested, and police have not immediately confirmed any detentions.
