Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir met with Libya’s Deputy Army Chief Lieutenant General Saddam Khalifa Haftar on Wednesday to emphasize the need for stronger defence relations and expanded cooperation in military training and security. The meeting took place at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi.

Upon his arrival, Lieutenant General Haftar was welcomed with a guard of honour by a well-disciplined tri-services contingent, reflecting the significance of the visit. The two senior military officials discussed a range of topics including mutual interests, regional security challenges, defence collaboration, and opportunities to deepen military-to-military engagement.

Both leaders agreed on the importance of enhancing bilateral defence ties and broadening cooperation in professional military training and security matters. Field Marshal Munir reaffirmed the Pakistan Army’s dedication to fostering peace, stability, and constructive partnerships with allied nations.

Meanwhile, Lieutenant General Haftar commended the professionalism of the Pakistan Armed Forces and recognized their vital role in promoting regional peace and security. This meeting follows Lieutenant General Haftar’s previous visit to Pakistan over four months ago, when he was accompanied by Libyan Arab Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief Field Marshal Khalifa Abu-al-Qasim Haftar.

During that February 6 meeting, the parties exchanged views on shared concerns, focusing on security dynamics in their regions and professional cooperation. The discussions highlighted the ongoing commitment to sustained engagement and collaboration between the military forces of Pakistan and Libya.
