Eight Iranian fishermen who were rescued at sea by a British vessel after their boat ran aground have been safely returned to Iran from Karachi, announced Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Monday.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and maritime authorities worked closely with officials from Iran and the United Kingdom to ensure the fishermen’s secure transit and prompt repatriation. The fishermen departed Karachi for Iran earlier in the day.

In a significant development, Dar shared on the social media platform X that the eight fishermen were rescued by the British vessel MMA Valour and have now been successfully repatriated. He emphasized the close cooperation between Pakistani, Iranian, and British authorities in facilitating their safe return.

Dar also expressed his appreciation to Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi for the confidence placed in Pakistan during the repatriation process, while commending all domestic and international parties involved for their collaborative efforts.

Pakistan and Iran share a maritime border known for its volatility, where fishermen from both countries are often detained or stranded due to inadequate navigation equipment or technical malfunctions in international waters. This incident underscores the ongoing challenges faced by fishermen operating in this region.
