ECC Sanctions Rs2.1 Billion for Islamabad Model Jail Construction

The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) has authorized an allocation of Rs2.1 billion for the construction of a model jail in Islamabad. This decision marks a significant step towards enhancing the correctional facilities in the federal capital. The new jail is expected to incorporate modern infrastructure and improved security measures to address current challenges within the prison system.

Prison overcrowding and outdated facilities have long been issues in Pakistan’s correctional institutions, impacting inmate welfare and security. The model jail project aims to set a benchmark for future prison developments by integrating contemporary design and rehabilitation-focused amenities. This initiative aligns with broader government efforts to reform the criminal justice system and promote humane treatment of prisoners.

In a significant development for Islamabad’s law enforcement and judicial framework, the construction of this facility is anticipated to improve operational efficiency and inmate management. The ECC’s approval reflects the government’s commitment to investing in infrastructure that supports justice and public safety. Once completed, the model jail could serve as a prototype for similar projects across the country, potentially influencing national prison reform policies.
