Talal Chaudhry Asserts Control Over AJK Situation, Questions Protest Motives

Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry declared on Tuesday that the situation in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) remains under control, with authorities actively safeguarding the lives and property of residents. Addressing journalists at Parliament House, he confirmed that stability had largely been restored across the region.

In a significant development, Chaudhry referred to recent disturbances in AJK, noting that a banned organization was being exposed amid the unrest. He mentioned the emergence of an audio recording the previous day, which sheds light on the ongoing tensions.

The minister emphasized that the federal government had sincerely begun implementing the demands raised by the people of AJK. Despite these efforts, he questioned the intentions of those persisting with protests, suggesting their objectives might differ from the stated demands.

Highlighting the democratic rights of Kashmiris, Chaudhry stressed that the people of Kashmir have the authority to legislate through their elected representatives. He raised concerns about whether certain groups aimed to undermine this legislative power by transferring it elsewhere.

Reiterating the government’s commitment, he stated that no effort had been spared in resolving issues related to AJK. He confirmed that normalcy had been largely restored in areas including Rawalakot and other parts of the region.

When questioned about casualties during the unrest, Chaudhry assured that the government would release a detailed statement addressing the matter. His comments come amid ongoing discussions surrounding the protests and security developments in AJK.
