A female doctor was critically injured after an acid attack at Sandeman Provincial Hospital in Quetta. The assault took place in the general surgery ward, prompting her immediate transfer to a private hospital for initial treatment.
In a significant development, police killed the suspect involved in the attack during an encounter. The attacker has been identified as a lift operator at the hospital.
Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti requested a detailed report on the incident and ordered that all necessary medical arrangements be made for the injured doctor. Adviser to the Chief Minister, Shahid Rind, emphasized that the investigation is being conducted from multiple perspectives and assured that there will be no leniency regarding the safety of female doctors and medical personnel.
The provincial government later arranged for Dr. Mahnoor Nasir to be airlifted to Karachi for advanced treatment at a private hospital, with all expenses covered by the government. CM Bugti confirmed the transfer and stated that the administration is closely monitoring her condition in Karachi.
Meanwhile, the Young Doctors Association of Balochistan, led by President Dr. Hayee Baloch, declared a boycott of hospital services except for emergencies in protest of the attack. Dr. Baloch reported that the victim sustained approximately 35% burns as a result of the acid assault.
