Severe Heatwave to Impact Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from June 8 to 11

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a heatwave warning for multiple districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, forecasting intense hot weather from June 8 to June 11. Temperatures are expected to soar 4 to 6 degrees Celsius above the seasonal average across much of the province during this timeframe.

In the southern districts of Dera Ismail Khan, Tank, Bannu, and Karak, the mercury could climb as high as 46°C. Meanwhile, cities including Peshawar, Nowshera, Charsadda, Mardan, Swabi, and Haripur are likely to experience temperatures near 45°C.

In a significant development, authorities have been instructed to set up heatstroke prevention centers and cooling stations in vulnerable areas to mitigate health risks. Emergency services such as Rescue 1122 and the fire brigade have been placed on high alert to respond swiftly to any incidents arising from the extreme heat.

The PDMA also cautioned about the possibility of dust storms and strong winds accompanying the severe heat conditions. Additionally, the dry weather is expected to put extra strain on water reservoirs, while elevated temperatures may accelerate snowmelt in the province’s higher altitudes.

The public has been urged to minimize exposure to direct sunlight and maintain sufficient hydration throughout the heatwave period to avoid heat-related illnesses.
