Norwegian FA Supports Ethics Complaint Against FIFA President Infantino

The Norwegian Football Federation (NFF) has formally endorsed a complaint against FIFA President Gianni Infantino, accusing him of violating rules on political neutrality, NFF president Lise Klaveness announced on Tuesday.

Klaveness revealed the federation submitted an official letter supporting the case ahead of Norway’s national team departure for the World Cup. She noted that the decision has already generated political tensions within FIFA’s leadership.

The original complaint was filed by human rights organization FairSquare to FIFA’s ethics committee. It challenges Infantino’s decision to present a “peace prize” to then-U.S. President Donald Trump during the 2026 World Cup draw held in December. Critics contend this act breaches FIFA’s statutes prohibiting political involvement.

Klaveness confirmed that the NFF’s support letter has been dispatched and that follow-up actions will occur after the World Cup concludes. She also mentioned that FIFA officials expressed concerns about the federation’s position during a recent meeting in Budapest, which took place alongside the Champions League final.

While acknowledging that opinions differ within football’s governing bodies, Klaveness described the discussions as constructive. The NFF emphasized it acted independently without pressuring other national federations to join the complaint, although it has received some support from other associations.
