The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has intensified its efforts to reactivate dormant airports throughout the country. A high-level meeting convened at the PAA headquarters in Karachi, led by Director General Air Vice Marshal Zeeshan Saeed, brought together senior officials from airport services, engineering, and commercial departments to discuss the revival plans.
During the session, participants were instructed to prioritize reopening airports in Dera Ismail Khan, Turbat, Dalbandin, and Saidu Sharif. Additionally, directives were issued to restore operations at Sukkur, New Gwadar, and several other facilities. This initiative aligns with recent moves by the Ministry of Defence and the PAA aimed at rehabilitating inactive aviation infrastructure and boosting regional air connectivity.
In a significant development earlier this month, Dera Ismail Khan Airport resumed operations after years of inactivity, marking a key milestone in the broader strategy to bring non-operational airports back into service. The Ministry of Defence has urged the PAA to expedite the restoration process for all inactive airports nationwide.
The meeting also touched upon matters concerning a new private airline, though specific details were not disclosed. Notably, the PAA was established through a statutory notification on 9 August 2024 (SRO.1216(I)/2024) with the mandate to enhance the management, operation, and development of airports and related services across Pakistan.
