Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz recently underwent a significant surgical procedure at Sharif Medical City Hospital in Lahore. Following the operation, she was discharged and shifted to her residence, where she continues her recovery. Senior minister Marriyum Aurangzeb confirmed the successful completion of the surgery and the chief minister’s subsequent transfer home on Thursday.
Despite the recent medical intervention, Maryam Nawaz remained actively involved in the governance of Punjab. Remarkably, she personally supervised critical aspects such as security and cleanliness across the province directly from the hospital on Eid day. This demonstrates her commitment to maintaining administrative oversight even while recuperating.
In a related development, Information Technology Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja extended prayers and well-wishes for the chief minister’s swift recovery and good health. This support highlights the solidarity within the provincial government during this period.
It is notable that this is not the first time Maryam Nawaz has undergone surgery recently. Earlier in January 2023, she had throat surgery in Geneva, Switzerland, where doctors operated on two of her throat glands during a procedure that lasted approximately three hours. After that surgery, she was also promptly moved to her room to begin recovery. These medical episodes underline the ongoing health challenges faced by the Punjab chief minister while she continues to fulfill her official duties.
