Peshawar Declares Health Emergency Over Congo Virus Risk Ahead of Eid

Peshawar has declared a health emergency alert in response to rising concerns about the potential spread of the Congo virus during the upcoming Eid celebrations. The health department announced on Tuesday that all medical facilities in the city and its surrounding areas will maintain heightened vigilance throughout the festive period.

This precautionary move comes amid increased activity at livestock markets and large public gatherings typical of Eid, which could facilitate virus transmission. Hospitals have been instructed to keep emergency and trauma services fully operational without interruption. Medical personnel, including doctors and nurses, are required to remain on duty around the clock to promptly address any suspected cases.

In a significant development, specialized Congo virus help desks will be set up in major hospitals to enable early detection, screening, and treatment of symptomatic patients. These dedicated units are expected to enhance coordination and streamline response efforts during any health emergencies.

Hospitals must also ensure sufficient stocks of essential medicines, blood supplies, and protective gear to avoid shortages during the holiday. Authorities stressed that comprehensive preparedness across the healthcare system is vital to effectively managing potential health threats.

Meanwhile, stringent preventive measures have been mandated at cattle markets, including regular disinfection and tick-control operations, which are crucial in minimizing the risk of Congo virus transmission. These steps aim to protect public health throughout Eid while ensuring the healthcare infrastructure remains fully capable of responding to any emerging situation.
