DRAP Bans Sale and Use of 17 Substandard Auto-Disable Syringes

The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) has officially declared 17 brands of auto-disable syringes as substandard. This decision includes a complete ban on their sale and use across the country. Auto-disable syringes are designed to prevent reuse, playing a critical role in controlling the spread of infections during medical procedures.

In a significant development for public health, DRAP’s move aims to safeguard patients from potential health risks associated with poor-quality syringes. The use of substandard syringes can lead to serious complications, including the transmission of blood-borne diseases. This ban reflects DRAP’s ongoing commitment to maintaining high standards in medical supplies and protecting the population.

Meanwhile, healthcare providers and suppliers are urged to comply with the ban immediately to avoid legal consequences and ensure patient safety. The regulatory authority is expected to intensify inspections and monitoring to enforce this directive effectively. This action underscores the importance of quality control in medical devices within Pakistan’s healthcare system.
