PM Approves Four-Year Extension for Intelligence Bureau Chief Fawad Asadullah Khan

The Government of Pakistan has officially extended Fawad Asadullah Khan’s contract as Director General (DG) of the Intelligence Bureau (IB) for an additional four years. This extension, formally approved by the Prime Minister, will commence from 14 July 2026.

This decision reflects recognition of Mr. Khan’s outstanding performance, particularly his effective handling of critical issues related to counter-terrorism and national security. His leadership has been credited with significant progress in neutralizing security threats and managing complex anti-terrorism operations nationwide.

Notably, the government’s choice to retain Mr. Khan underscores a commitment to maintaining stability and continuity within Pakistan’s leading civilian intelligence agency amid a sensitive regional security environment. This move aims to prevent any disruption in leadership as the mid-2020s approach.

With the Prime Minister’s formal endorsement, Mr. Khan is set to continue directing the IB’s strategic operations well into the next decade. Analysts have highlighted that a four-year extension is unusually long, signaling strong confidence in his administrative and intelligence expertise by the current government.
