Supreme Judicial Council Dismisses All Complaints Against Chief Justice Afridi

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) has unanimously dismissed all complaints lodged against Chief Justice Yahya Afridi, declaring them unfounded following its meeting on May 14, 2026. The council issued a summary of the complaints and its rulings after Chief Justice Afridi consented to the public disclosure of the proceedings and outcomes.

The complaints included various allegations of misconduct and procedural violations. However, the SJC rejected each petition unanimously, underscoring the lack of merit in the claims.

One notable complaint was submitted by advocate Mian Sibghatullah Shah, who alleged irregularities during the 2016 appointment of additional sessions judges while Justice Afridi served at the Peshawar High Court. This petition was dismissed by the council.

Similarly, a petition from Karachi resident Amjad Hussain Durrani was rejected. He had accused a Supreme Court bench of issuing a January 2022 decision without hearing his plea, an allegation the council found unsubstantiated.

Further, Lahore-based advocate Ajmal Mahmood’s complaint challenging restrictions on his access to the Supreme Court and its branch registries was also dismissed. Another complaint from Karachi resident Kamran Khan, who alleged the unlawful dismissal of a previous council complaint, was turned down as well.

Additionally, Muhammad Asif Masood from Burewala, Vehari district, had filed a petition contesting a March 2023 Supreme Court bench decision in a civil appeal. This petition was also unanimously rejected by the council.

In a significant development, the SJC concluded that all complaints lacked substantive evidence, leading to their dismissal. The council’s decision reinforces the position of Chief Justice Yahya Afridi amid these challenges.
