The federal government has taken a significant step in environmental governance by reconstituting the Islamabad Wildlife Management Board (IWMB). This move aims to strengthen the management and conservation efforts of wildlife within the capital territory. A formal notification has been issued to announce the appointment of new members to the board, marking a fresh phase in its operational framework.

In a notable development, the Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad has been designated as the Chairperson of the IWMB. This appointment underscores the government’s intent to integrate administrative oversight with wildlife management, ensuring coordinated efforts across various departments. The board’s composition also includes key representatives from the Capital Development Authority (CDA), Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI), and the Forest Department, reflecting a multi-agency approach to environmental stewardship.

Furthermore, the notification specifies that the Director Wildlife of the IWMB will assume the role of Secretary to the board. This arrangement is expected to facilitate effective communication and implementation of policies related to wildlife conservation. The reconstitution of the IWMB is anticipated to enhance the protection of Islamabad’s natural habitats and promote sustainable development within the region.

Overall, this restructuring signals the government’s commitment to preserving biodiversity and addressing ecological challenges in the capital. By involving multiple stakeholders and appointing experienced officials, the IWMB is poised to play a pivotal role in safeguarding Islamabad’s wildlife and natural resources.
