The New York Yankees have placed left-handed pitcher Max Fried on the 15-day injured list following medical scans that revealed a bone bruise in his left elbow. This move has been made retroactive to Thursday.
Fried’s injury was identified after an MRI and CT scan were conducted in response to concerns about his recent pitching performances. The 32-year-old left-hander began the 2026 season strongly but experienced a decline in May. Over his last three starts, Fried allowed 11 earned runs and 17 hits across 14 1/3 innings. His latest appearance in Baltimore was cut short, lasting only three innings.
Despite this recent downturn, Fried’s season statistics remain respectable, holding a 4-3 record with a 3.21 ERA. He had an impressive April, posting a 4-1 record and a 2.09 ERA in seven starts.
Fried joined the Yankees before the 2025 season on an eight-year contract worth $218 million after spending eight years with the Atlanta Braves. He earned his third All-Star nod last year, finishing with a 19-5 record and a 2.86 ERA.
Over the course of his Major League Baseball career, Fried has compiled a 96-44 record with a 3.04 ERA in 210 appearances.
To replace Fried on the roster, the Yankees have called up 22-year-old pitching prospect Elmer Rodriguez from Triple-A Scranton-Wilkes-Barre. Rodriguez made his MLB debut on April 29 but was soon optioned back to the minors. While he has struggled in limited major league action, posting a 5.19 ERA in two starts, he has performed well in Triple-A with a 1.38 ERA across five outings.
