British-Pakistani entrepreneur and educationist Prof Dr Sarwar Muhammad Khawaja was honoured with the Sitara-e-Imtiaz, one of Pakistan’s most prestigious civilian awards, by President Asif Ali Zardari during a formal investiture ceremony at the President House. The event was attended by prominent figures including Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani, National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, federal and provincial cabinet members, diplomats, and representatives from Pakistan’s social and business communities.

The award citation highlighted Khawaja’s significant contributions to education, technological innovation, entrepreneurship, and social development. It also acknowledged his efforts in elevating Pakistan’s international standing and promoting socio-economic progress. Originally from Lahore, Khawaja has established a leading role within the United Kingdom’s higher education management sector, developing one of the largest education management enterprises in the country.

His initiatives in education and skills development have reportedly benefited over 40,000 individuals worldwide. Khawaja is the founder and chairman of London-based SK Hub and has held influential international positions, including serving as a senator in the European Economic Senate and as chairman of the European Council on Global Relations.

Expressing his gratitude, Khawaja described the award as a milestone recognizing his lifelong commitment to educational excellence, innovation, and national development. He emphasized the importance of public service and future generations in his remarks.

In a significant development, Khawaja announced the establishment of Pakistan’s first Artificial Intelligence university in Lahore, supported by the government. He stated that the university will offer a world-class curriculum designed to empower Pakistani youth and strengthen the education ecosystem in Punjab and across the country. He also mentioned ongoing collaborations with key partners in the UK and EU to enhance modern education in Pakistan.

Furthermore, Khawaja revealed plans for major foreign direct investment in Pakistan’s hospitality and information technology sectors. These investments aim to boost the Pakistani IT ecosystem, attract foreign capital, and generate employment opportunities for skilled young professionals.

Born in 1968, Khawaja completed his early education in Lahore and is an alumnus of prestigious institutions including Harvard, Oxford, Cambridge, Buckinghamshire New University, and City University of London. He is recognized as one of the largest private Pakistani-led education facility management operators in the UK.

Notably, Khawaja is also preparing to launch the JCA-London Fashion Academy (Jimmy Choo Fashion Academy) in Pakistan, further expanding his contributions to education and entrepreneurship in the country.
