Saudi Arabia Implements New Regulations for Iqama Holders

Saudi Arabia has recently introduced new regulations concerning the Iqama, the residency permit issued to expatriates living and working in the kingdom. These changes aim to streamline administrative processes and enhance compliance with labor and immigration laws. The updated rules affect various aspects of the Iqama system, including issuance, renewal, and cancellation procedures. This move reflects the Saudi government’s ongoing efforts to modernize its labor market and improve regulatory oversight.

Notably, the new Iqama regulations are part of broader reforms under Saudi Vision 2030, which seeks to diversify the economy and reduce dependence on oil revenues. By tightening residency and employment controls, authorities hope to better manage the expatriate workforce and ensure alignment with national development goals. The changes also emphasize the importance of legal employment contracts and timely updates of personal and professional information by Iqama holders.

Meanwhile, these adjustments are expected to impact millions of foreign workers residing in Saudi Arabia, as well as their employers. Compliance with the new rules will be crucial to avoid penalties or disruptions in residency status. The enforcement of these regulations underscores Saudi Arabia’s commitment to maintaining a structured and transparent labor environment, which is vital for attracting foreign investment and fostering sustainable economic growth.
