Saudi Arabia has introduced cutting-edge artificial intelligence technology to streamline travel procedures for Hajj pilgrims as part of the Makkah Route Initiative. This move aims to enhance the overall pilgrimage experience by simplifying and accelerating processing steps.
The Ministry of Interior, in partnership with the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA), unveiled these advanced digital solutions to improve service delivery and ensure smoother travel for pilgrims. Now in its eighth year, the initiative operates through 17 ports spanning 10 countries.
A newly developed smart mobile device integrates AI and data analytics to facilitate procedures, particularly benefiting elderly pilgrims and individuals with disabilities. This automated system verifies travel documents and visas with remarkable precision, while also capturing biometric data, facial images, and passport information in under 40 seconds per pilgrim.
Authorities highlight that this initiative demonstrates Saudi Arabia’s commitment to leveraging modern technology to expedite processes, boost operational efficiency, and elevate the pilgrim experience during Hajj. The upcoming Hajj is anticipated to occur between May 25 and May 30, contingent on the sighting of the Dhul Hijjah moon.
