Pakistan Navy Rescues Indian Crew from Distressed Vessel in Arabian Sea

The Pakistan Navy initiated a humanitarian rescue mission in the Arabian Sea to assist a merchant vessel facing distress, involving six Indian and one Indonesian crew member aboard the MV Gautam. The vessel, en route from Oman to India, encountered a technical malfunction while at sea.

Following a distress call, the Maritime Rescue and Coordination Centre (MRCC) in Mumbai reached out to Pakistani authorities for assistance. In response, the Pakistan Navy dispatched the PNS Kashmir, a ship from the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency, to conduct the rescue operation.

Onboard the vessel, the affected crew members are receiving food, medical care, and technical support. The Pakistan Navy reaffirmed its readiness and dedication to promptly address emergencies at sea.

In recent years, the Pakistan Navy has frequently conducted rescue and evacuation missions in regional waters, focusing on distressed merchant ships and fishing boats as part of its maritime safety responsibilities.

Notably, in April, the Pakistan Navy rescued 18 crew members from the merchant vessel Gold Autumn in the North Arabian Sea. The PNS Hunain responded to a distress call approximately 200 nautical miles off Pakistan’s coast, providing medical aid, firefighting assistance, damage assessment, and successfully evacuating the crew.

The rescued personnel, comprising nationals from China, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Vietnam, and Indonesia, were transported to Karachi for medical treatment and repatriation to their home countries.
