Shakira captivated an estimated 2 million spectators at Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday, delivering the largest concert of her career, city officials announced. The Colombian pop icon energized the iconic beachfront venue, which has become a popular site for major concerts aimed at enhancing tourism in the city.

This performance was part of Rio’s “Todo Mundo no Rio” festival, an initiative designed to draw international visitors and spotlight the city throughout May. The concert commenced with an impressive drone display featuring a wolf emblem linked to Shakira’s brand.

During her set, Shakira sang in Portuguese and expressed gratitude to the crowd, describing the experience as “magical to see millions of souls together,” while emphasizing themes of music, unity, and joy. Her repertoire included some of her greatest hits such as “Hips Don’t Lie,” “Antologia,” and the 2010 FIFA World Cup anthem “Waka Waka.”

Notably, she shared the stage with renowned Brazilian artists including Anitta, Caetano Veloso, Maria Bethania, and Ivete Sangalo, adding a local flavor to the event.

Officials highlighted that the concert generated approximately 800 million reais (around $161.45 million) for Rio’s economy, benefiting sectors like tourism, hospitality, transportation, and retail. The “Todo Mundo no Rio” festival is slated to remain a fixture on the city’s official calendar through at least 2028, promising continued cultural and economic impact.
