Xiaomi has officially launched its Android 17 Developer Preview Program, providing early access builds for four of its high-end devices, including the Xiaomi 17 series and Xiaomi 15T Pro. This initiative highlights the company’s commitment to accelerating software adoption and aligning closely with Google’s latest Android release cycle.
The rollout coincides with the broader Android community’s testing phase for Android 17, internally known as “Cinnamon Bun.” Google has already issued Android 17 Beta 4 for Pixel phones, marking the final beta stage before the stable version becomes available.
In this context, several manufacturers have begun offering early developer access, with Xiaomi joining them by releasing its first Android 17 Developer Preview (DP1) for select flagship models.
The devices eligible for this early access include the Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Ultra, Leica Leitzphone powered by Xiaomi, and Xiaomi 15T Pro. Xiaomi has clarified that this program is intended exclusively for developers to evaluate system performance, explore new features, and submit feedback ahead of the public launch.
Users with compatible devices can experience Android 17 features through this preview build; however, Xiaomi stresses that this version is not suitable for general consumers due to its developmental nature.
Installing the developer preview differs from regular updates, requiring a manual flashing procedure. Users must download the ROM package, transfer it to the device’s file manager under the downloads folder, then navigate to system update settings. From there, they need to access the Xiaomi HyperOS update section, enable developer options, and manually select the update package to initiate installation. This process erases all existing data on the device.
Xiaomi strongly recommends that only experienced users or developers attempt this installation, as incorrect flashing may cause system malfunctions. A complete backup of personal data is advised before proceeding.
Additionally, devices must be running specific HyperOS versions to support the Android 17 preview: HyperOS 3.0.301.0 for Xiaomi 17; HyperOS 3.0.9.0 for Xiaomi 17 Ultra and Leica Leitzphone; and HyperOS 3.0.11.0 for Xiaomi 15T Pro.
This early release underscores Xiaomi’s strategy to streamline its software development timeline and involve developers earlier in the Android update process, while preparing its flagship devices for the next generation of mobile technology.
