Two Sri Lanka U-19 Cricketers Detained Over Alleged Privacy Violation

Two members of Sri Lanka’s under-19 cricket team have been taken into custody following serious allegations of privacy invasion. The incident reportedly occurred at a hotel in Colombo, where the youth squad was lodged during a national team engagement. The players are accused of secretly filming a woman inside a hotel bathroom using a mobile device without her permission.

The woman involved lodged a formal complaint, prompting law enforcement to act swiftly. Authorities detained the two cricketers earlier this week, and each was subsequently released on personal bail amounting to Rs 500,000. The police have launched a thorough investigation to uncover the full details of the case, including whether any recorded material was distributed or posted on social media platforms.

In a significant development, the accused players are expected to appear in court again on May 25 as the legal process continues. This case has sparked widespread concern about privacy rights and the ethical conduct expected from young athletes representing their country on an international stage.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Cricket has yet to issue any official statement regarding disciplinary measures against the players involved. The incident highlights the growing need for stringent codes of conduct and awareness programs within sports organizations to prevent such violations and uphold the integrity of national teams.
