Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has affirmed that the government is implementing priority-driven measures to protect children’s futures and is firmly dedicated to eradicating polio from Pakistan. During a meeting with a UNICEF delegation, he emphasized that ending polio remains a top national objective.

In a significant development, the prime minister expressed deep concern about the detrimental effects of lead exposure, which is causing severe mental and physical developmental problems among children. He noted that the government is actively collaborating with international partners to mitigate and prevent health risks associated with lead contamination.

The UNICEF delegation acknowledged the prime minister’s leadership and expressed appreciation for the government’s ongoing efforts to shield children from polio and other preventable illnesses. They shared insights from a recent survey conducted across Pakistan, highlighting progress and challenges in child health protection.

Notably, the delegation provided detailed information on lead exposure levels in various regions, identifying areas where the issue is particularly acute. They underscored the necessity of enhancing public awareness campaigns about the hazards of lead and urged the strengthening of preventive strategies nationwide.

Meanwhile, UNICEF praised the steps Pakistan is taking to address child health risks and improve overall developmental outcomes, encouraging continued commitment to these critical initiatives.
