Pakistan is rapidly advancing its transition toward a digital economy, with Federal IT Minister Shaza Fatima emphasizing significant progress in the deployment of 5G technology and the broader goals of the Digital Pakistan initiative. The minister highlighted that the introduction of 3G and 4G services in 2016 established a crucial foundation for expanding internet access across the country.

She pointed out that the number of mobile users continues to rise steadily, reflecting an increasing dependence on digital services in various sectors. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the government is focused on enhancing digital infrastructure and expanding high-speed connectivity to further the Digital Pakistan agenda.

In a significant development, the bidding process for the 5G spectrum was successfully completed last month, marking a vital milestone toward the launch of next-generation internet services. Fatima stressed that improved internet access is essential for economic growth, particularly in critical areas such as healthcare and education.

She added that enhanced connectivity and modern technologies will help reduce social and economic disparities while improving the delivery of public services. The introduction of 5G is anticipated to dramatically increase internet speeds, generate new job opportunities, and foster innovation across multiple industries.

Meanwhile, the minister highlighted the country’s growing movement toward a cashless economy, noting that digital platforms are playing an increasingly important role in financial transactions and daily life in Pakistan.
