ECC Sanctions Export of Donkey Meat and Hides from Gwadar Port

The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) has authorized the export of donkey meat and hides from Gwadar, marking a notable development in Pakistan’s trade sector. This decision is expected to open new avenues for local exporters and enhance the utilization of animal by-products that were previously underutilized. Gwadar, a strategic port city, plays a pivotal role in Pakistan’s trade ambitions, especially under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) framework.

Donkey meat and hides have traditionally been overlooked commodities in Pakistan’s export portfolio. By approving their export, the ECC aims to diversify the country’s export base and generate additional revenue streams for local communities involved in livestock farming and related industries. This move could also help regulate and formalize the trade of these products, ensuring better quality control and market access.

Meanwhile, the decision aligns with broader government efforts to maximize the economic potential of Gwadar as a trade hub. Exporting such niche products could attract new buyers and strengthen Pakistan’s position in international markets. The initiative is expected to have a positive impact on employment and income generation in the region, contributing to the overall economic development of Balochistan province.
