ECC Approves Import of Used Vehicles and Auto Parts for Repair and Re-export

The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) has granted approval for the importation of used vehicles and automotive parts specifically for the purpose of repair and re-export. This decision is expected to facilitate the automotive repair industry by allowing businesses to bring in second-hand vehicles and components that can be refurbished and then sold abroad. The move aims to enhance trade opportunities and support local enterprises involved in vehicle refurbishment.

Notably, this policy adjustment reflects a strategic effort to tap into the global demand for repaired vehicles and parts, potentially increasing foreign exchange earnings. It also aligns with broader economic objectives to stimulate industrial activity and export growth within the automotive sector. By enabling the import of used items for repair, the ECC is fostering a niche market that could create jobs and encourage skill development in vehicle maintenance and refurbishment.

Meanwhile, this approval could have a positive ripple effect on related industries such as logistics, shipping, and automotive services. It underscores the government’s willingness to adapt regulations to support export-oriented businesses and improve Pakistan’s position in international automotive trade. The policy may also attract investment in repair facilities and technology upgrades, contributing to overall economic diversification and resilience.
