On April 27, 2026, at 11:46 AM Pakistan Standard Time, a significant earthquake registering 5.7 on the Richter scale struck near the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border region. The Pakistan Meteorological Department recorded the epicenter at coordinates 37.32°N latitude and 71.30°E longitude, with the quake originating at a depth of approximately 170 kilometers beneath the earth’s surface.

This seismic event caused noticeable tremors across a wide area of northern Pakistan. Major cities and districts such as Islamabad, Swat, Shangla, and Buner experienced shaking, prompting residents to report the unusual movement. Additionally, areas including Abbottabad, Bajaur, and Lower Dir also felt the impact of the earthquake, highlighting the extensive reach of the tremors.

In a significant development, local authorities have so far not reported any casualties or structural damage resulting from the earthquake. Emergency services and disaster management teams remain on alert as they continue to monitor the situation closely and conduct thorough assessments to ensure public safety. The region’s history of seismic activity underscores the importance of preparedness and rapid response in such events.

Meanwhile, experts emphasize that earthquakes originating at such depths can still transmit strong vibrations over large distances, which explains the widespread sensation felt across northern Pakistan. Residents are advised to stay vigilant and follow safety protocols as authorities keep a watchful eye on any aftershocks or related developments.
