Islamabad and Rawalpindi Resume Public and Goods Transport Services

The district administrations of Islamabad and Rawalpindi have authorized the resumption of all public and goods transport within the twin cities as of Saturday. The Islamabad deputy commissioner confirmed that all bus terminals across the city are operational except for the Faizabad terminal, which will remain closed until further notice.

In a parallel move, the Rawalpindi deputy commissioner announced that all entry and exit points for private, public, and goods vehicles have been reopened. However, the Pir Wadhai Adda terminal will continue to stay closed until new instructions are issued.

This decision comes after a period of suspension that began on April 19, when both district administrations halted public and goods transport without providing an explanation. At that time, the Islamabad deputy commissioner had requested citizens to cooperate with security agencies during the suspension.

Meanwhile, the Islamabad administration has also reopened the Margalla hiking trails starting Sunday, allowing outdoor enthusiasts to access the popular routes once again. Additionally, all public parks, including Daman-e-Koh and Lake View, are now accessible to visitors.

In line with the federal government’s austerity measures, revised business hours have been implemented in Islamabad. Markets and shopping malls will close at 8pm, while essential services such as medical stores, hospitals, petrol stations, and dairy shops remain exempt from these restrictions. Restaurants, food outlets, and tandoors are permitted to operate until 10pm, including takeaway and home delivery services. Similarly, wedding halls, marquees, and other commercial venues may stay open until 10pm. All sports facilities, clubs, and gyms have been instructed to close by 10pm under the updated guidelines.
