CBS and Other Networks Cancel Popular TV Shows Amid Lineup Overhaul

A series of cancellations across CBS in 2026 has ignited backlash as several beloved TV shows are cut during a major network lineup overhaul. Among the most notable departures is The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, which is set to conclude in May 2026. Stephen Colbert announced that this marks the end of the show on CBS, clarifying that he will not be replaced as the entire format is being discontinued. CBS attributed the decision primarily to financial reasons rather than the show’s performance.

In addition to this, CBS has also cancelled the scripted series Watson and DMV, both of which had been uncertain earlier in the year. DMV reportedly lost out after CBS chose to move forward with a competing comedy pilot, while Watson was ultimately dropped after its fate was tied to the success of other programs.

The wave of cancellations extends beyond CBS. NBC has ended Law & Order: Organized Crime, concluding the spinoff after several seasons marked by frequent changes in showrunners. Meanwhile, The CW has also cancelled Good Cop/Bad Cop, adding to the growing list of shows not returning.

This surge in cancellations has generated frustration among viewers online, particularly as both newer series and established favorites have been affected. With networks increasingly focused on reducing costs and reshaping their programming, 2026 is shaping up to be a turbulent year for television, with further changes likely on the horizon.
