Punjab Faces New Surge in Roti Prices as Tandoor Owners Adjust Rates

Residents across Punjab are once again facing financial strain as tandoor owners have implemented a fresh increase in the price of roti. This sudden adjustment has caused the cost of this staple food item to rise notably, with Lahore seeing prices climb to Rs15 per piece. In certain other parts of the province, the price has surged even higher, reaching Rs20 per roti.

Previously, the price of roti was relatively stable at Rs14 throughout much of Punjab, but the latest hike has added to the economic challenges faced by many households. The price increase has been reported in various localities including Shad Bagh, Samanabad, and Iqbal Town, among others, where residents are now paying more for their daily bread.

Tandoor owners have pointed to the escalating costs of essential inputs such as LPG gas and flour as the primary reasons behind the price revision. They emphasized that the irregular supply and inflated prices of LPG have placed considerable pressure on their businesses. The President of the Nan Roti Association highlighted that the current gas supply situation remains unstable, with LPG being sold at significantly higher rates than before.

In a significant development, the association plans to formally petition the relevant authorities to secure an official approval for the revised roti prices. They have also assured that should the prices of gas and flour decrease in the future, they will correspondingly lower the cost of roti to ease the burden on consumers. Meanwhile, this price adjustment reflects broader inflationary trends affecting essential commodities in the region.
