Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s aircraft was escorted by Qatari fighter jets as it entered Qatar’s airspace en route to Doha, symbolizing a significant diplomatic gesture and the robust relationship between the two nations. This ceremonial escort was part of the warm reception during the second leg of his tri-nation tour from April 15 to 18, occurring amidst heightened tensions in the Middle East and ongoing efforts to ease the US-Iran conflict.

During the flight, the prime minister expressed his appreciation, describing the honour as not only personal but also a tribute to the people and government of Pakistan. He extended his gratitude to Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani for the respectful gesture.

Upon landing at Doha International Airport, PM Shehbaz and his delegation were welcomed by Qatari Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al-Muraikhi. A well-presented contingent of the Qatari Armed Forces provided a guard of honour, emphasizing the importance of the visit. Pakistani flags were prominently displayed at the airport and throughout parts of Doha, reflecting the close and friendly ties between Pakistan and Qatar.

Senior officials accompanying the prime minister included Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi, and the prime minister’s spokesperson for international media, Mosharraf Zaidi.

Following his stay in Qatar, PM Shehbaz is scheduled to visit Turkey to participate in the Antalya Diplomacy Forum. There, he will join the Leaders’ Panel alongside global figures and present Pakistan’s perspective on regional and international matters. The visits to Saudi Arabia and Qatar focus on strengthening bilateral cooperation and addressing regional peace and security challenges.
