Islamabad Announces New Business Hours Amid Austerity Measures

In a significant development aimed at reinforcing austerity measures, the Islamabad administration has announced revised operating hours for various businesses across the city. This move is part of broader efforts to manage resources efficiently amid ongoing economic challenges. The new timings are set to take effect from April 16, 2026, and will remain in place until further notice.

Under the updated schedule, shops, markets, and shopping malls will be required to close their doors by 8:00 PM every day of the week. Meanwhile, restaurants, hotels, grocery stores, and food outlets will be permitted to operate until 10:00 PM, with takeaway and delivery services continuing beyond that time to accommodate customer needs. Additionally, marriage halls and commercial event venues have been instructed to conclude activities by 10:00 PM.

Sports facilities and gyms will also adhere to the 8:00 PM closing time, aligning with the overall objective of reducing energy consumption and operational costs. However, essential services such as pharmacies, hospitals, petrol pumps, CNG stations, and dairy shops have been exempted from these restrictions, allowing them to maintain their usual hours to ensure public convenience and safety.

The administration has called on both citizens and the business community to cooperate fully with the new regulations to ensure smooth implementation. This step reflects Islamabad’s commitment to balancing economic prudence with the needs of its residents, signaling a coordinated approach to managing the city’s resources during challenging times.
