Air France-KLM’s loyalty programme, Flying Blue, has launched a fresh range of benefits designed to reward its most dedicated frequent flyers. This update introduces “Choice Benefits,” allowing elite members to select from various rewards such as bonus miles, status accelerators, upgrade vouchers, or even the ability to gift elite status to others.
Travelers accumulate experience points (XPs) to determine their status within the programme. The new system enables members to unlock additional rewards at key milestones before reaching the highest “Ultimate” tier. These milestones are set at 450, 600, and 750 qualifying points, earned exclusively on Air France and KLM flights, with each level offering progressively greater advantages.
Options available at these thresholds include substantial bonus miles, extra XP credits to expedite status renewal, premium upgrade vouchers, and the opportunity to share elite status with friends or family. This initiative addresses a previous gap where flyers exceeding Platinum status had limited incentives to continue earning points unless targeting the Ultimate level.
By introducing these intermediate rewards, Flying Blue aims to foster ongoing loyalty and engagement among its most frequent travelers. While the added flexibility has been generally well-received, some critics suggest that certain choices, like mileage overdrafts, might be less attractive compared to straightforward bonus miles.
Nonetheless, this enhancement marks a significant improvement in the programme, providing more tangible value and making it easier for frequent flyers to reap benefits from their continued travel and spending.
