Trump Announces Plan to ‘Permanently Open’ Strait of Hormuz, Highlights China Cooperation

US President Donald Trump has announced his intention to “permanently open” the Strait of Hormuz, signaling a potential partnership with China aimed at easing tensions in the region. In a social media post dated April 15, Trump stated that China was “very happy” with this initiative, which he believes will benefit both Beijing and the global community.

Trump asserted that the situation in this crucial shipping corridor, vital for international oil transport, “will never happen again.” He also claimed that China has agreed not to supply weapons to Iran, though he did not provide any supporting evidence or further details regarding this assertion.

Highlighting his relationship with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Trump mentioned that the two leaders are scheduled to meet in the coming weeks. He emphasized the strong cooperation between the United States and China, describing their collaboration as “smart” and “very well” coordinated. At the same time, Trump reaffirmed the strength of the US military, stating that America remains “very good at fighting” if the situation demands it.

This announcement comes amid ongoing international concerns about the stability of the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic maritime passage for global oil shipments. However, neither Chinese nor Iranian officials have officially confirmed any such agreement or cooperation related to this plan.
