Bradley Cooper is poised to both direct and star alongside Margot Robbie in a forthcoming prequel to the Ocean’s franchise, marking a significant new installment in the popular heist series. Warner Bros. executives officially confirmed the project during their CinemaCon presentation in Las Vegas on Tuesday, putting an end to months of speculation surrounding the film’s development.
Although the movie has yet to receive a title, it is scheduled for release on June 25, 2027. The story is set in 1962, transporting audiences back several decades before the events involving Danny Ocean, and will delve into the origins of the legendary criminal legacy.
Margot Robbie shared that the narrative will focus on two masterminds—Danny Ocean’s parents—depicting them at the peak of their criminal prowess as they orchestrate a major heist. In addition to starring, Cooper will take on producing duties alongside Robbie, whose production company, LuckyChap, is backing the film.
Cooper assumes the director’s role following the departure of Lee Isaac Chung, who left the project due to creative differences. The Ocean’s franchise has been a Hollywood mainstay since its modern revival with Ocean’s Eleven, directed by Steven Soderbergh and featuring stars such as George Clooney, Brad Pitt, and Julia Roberts. The trilogy’s success paved the way for further expansion, including the 2018 spin-off Ocean’s Eight.
This announcement was part of a broader slate reveal from Warner Bros., which also highlighted several upcoming projects. Notably, the collaboration between Cooper and Robbie on a stylish, period-set heist film has quickly become one of the studio’s most eagerly awaited releases.
