Health Minister Voices Concern Over Vaccine Awareness Campaigns’ Limited Impact

ISLAMABAD: Federal Health Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal has raised concerns regarding the limited effectiveness of vaccine awareness campaigns, despite substantial investments amounting to millions of dollars supported by UNICEF. A high-level meeting chaired by the Minister was convened to thoroughly review the expenditures and tangible outcomes of these ongoing initiatives.

The Minister pointed out that although millions have been spent on promoting vaccination awareness, there has been little progress in reducing vaccine hesitancy and negative public perceptions, which remain pressing issues. He stressed that the main goal of these campaigns is to decrease vaccine refusal rates and foster positive public attitudes toward immunization.

In a significant development, Kamal emphasized the urgent necessity to combat misinformation and negative propaganda surrounding vaccines to rebuild public trust. He underscored that the funds allocated under Pakistan’s name carry a great responsibility, demanding transparent and efficient use by both the government and the Ministry of Health.

Notably, the Minister remarked that while several meetings have been held to address these concerns, it is now imperative to transition from discussions to results-driven actions. He reiterated that the fundamental aim of public health initiatives is to protect citizens from preventable diseases, a commitment the Ministry of Health fully upholds.

To this end, Kamal instructed relevant authorities to develop a comprehensive strategy focused on restoring confidence in vaccination programs, ensuring transparency, accountability, and measurable impact. The Federal Secretary Health, Director General Health, and Director General of the Federal Directorate of Immunization (FDI) also participated in the meeting.

The Minister reaffirmed the government’s dedication to the effective use of resources, emphasizing that meaningful change can be achieved to dispel negative perceptions about vaccines and ultimately improve public health outcomes nationwide.
