Sindh to Review Security Measures for VIPs, Officials, and Ulema

In a significant development aimed at enhancing the efficiency of security arrangements, Sindh’s Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar convened a meeting of the provincial threat assessment committee on Tuesday in Karachi. The session was briefed by DIG Security Maqsood Memon, who outlined the current security strategy and highlighted areas requiring reassessment.

The committee resolved to undertake a comprehensive review of the security provisions extended to VIPs, government officials, and religious scholars (Ulema). This move comes amid growing concerns about the allocation of security resources and the need to ensure that protection is granted strictly based on credible threat assessments rather than personal requests or influence.

Minister Lanjar emphasized that security cover should be dispensed solely on the basis of genuine threat perception. He directed the immediate withdrawal of unauthorized security personnel and additional police vehicles that were being used without proper justification. Furthermore, he ordered a thorough security audit of various institutions to align their protection measures with the prevailing security environment.

In addition to these directives, the provincial minister requested a detailed report on the removal of unnecessary security protocols and the redeployment of personnel previously assigned without valid cause. He also clarified that any new applications for security will be evaluated rigorously, with decisions grounded in merit and credible threat analysis, ensuring a more transparent and accountable system moving forward.
