Karachi Matric Board Bans Removal of Girls’ Burqas in Exams

In preparation for the ongoing ninth and tenth grade examinations, the Chairman of the Karachi Matric Board, Ghulam Hussain, has issued clear instructions concerning female students at exam centres. Female candidates will not be required to remove their burqas or abayas while attending their exams at any centre.

Ghulam Hussain emphasized that no reports of cheating involving female students have been received, making such intrusive measures unnecessary. He also warned that any examination centre found compelling female students to remove their burqas or abayas will face strict disciplinary action.

Additionally, the chairman mandated that no male invigilators should be assigned to centres designated exclusively for female candidates, ensuring a comfortable environment for the students.

The annual matriculation exams for classes 9 and 10 commenced citywide last Friday, with approximately 385,000 students registered to appear. Authorities have pledged rigorous supervision to uphold exam integrity.

To maintain order, Section 144 has been enforced around exam venues, mobile phones are completely banned, and nearby photocopy shops remain closed to eliminate any potential cheating opportunities.

Meanwhile, the matric exams have been overshadowed by serious controversies, including widespread accusations of paper leaks, bribery, and significant administrative lapses, which have disrupted students’ ability to take their exams under fair conditions.
