The Lucknow Super Giants managed a modest total of 164 runs in the 19th match of the ongoing Indian Premier League held in India. Facing the Gujarat Titans, the LSG innings struggled to gain momentum, with only Aiden Markram standing out by scoring 30 runs off 21 deliveries.
The innings began on shaky ground as Markram was the sole batter to reach 30, while the rest of the lineup failed to produce significant contributions. The clash between LSG and the clinical Gujarat Titans quickly turned into a tense contest from the very first ball.
Markram approached his innings with determination, playing the role of the anchor that LSG desperately needed. He struck five boundaries and a towering six, cruising to his 30 runs before falling to Prasidh Krishna, who caught an edge to send him back to the pavilion.
The middle order could not find consistent form. Mitchell Marsh briefly ignited the innings with 11 runs off just 4 balls, but Kagiso Rabada curtailed his momentum. Captain Rishabh Pant attempted to accelerate with a quick 18 runs, yet the Titans’ bowling attack remained relentless throughout.
In a significant development, Prasidh Krishna emerged as the standout bowler for Gujarat, dismantling the core of the LSG batting lineup. He claimed key wickets including the dangerous Nicholas Pooran and the dependable Ayush Badoni. Krishna’s ability to break partnerships repeatedly culminated in a dominant four-wicket haul.
As the innings neared its conclusion, the Super Giants faced the prospect of a below-par total. However, the lower order staged a late surge. Mohammed Shami and Avesh Khan transformed into unexpected power hitters, with Shami smashing a six and a four, while Avesh Khan impressed with a strike rate of 400.00, hitting a boundary on his very first ball.
This late flurry lifted the total to 164 for 8 wickets. Although it was not the imposing score LSG had hoped for, the momentum generated by Shami and Avesh Khan heading into the fielding innings gave Lucknow a fighting chance under the floodlights.
