On April 11, 2026, the iconic playback singer Asha Bhosle, aged 92, was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai following breathing difficulties and a heart attack. She is currently receiving intensive care, with her condition described as critical.

Recognized as one of the most influential voices in Indian music history, Bhosle’s hospitalization has deeply affected millions of fans and the entertainment community alike. Over a remarkable career spanning eight decades, the Padma Vibhushan awardee has lent her voice to countless classic Bollywood songs, earning widespread acclaim for her versatility and stamina.

In a significant development, she suffered a cardiac arrest on the night of April 11 and was promptly taken to the hospital’s intensive care unit for close monitoring. Medical staff are actively working to stabilize her condition, which remains serious.

Bhosle’s musical journey began in 1943 when she was just ten years old, trained in classical music by her father, Dinanath Mangeshkar. Throughout her extensive career, she recorded approximately 12,000 songs across 20 Indian languages. Guinness World Records recognizes her as the most recorded singer in history, with her voice featured in over 1,000 Bollywood films.

Her rise to fame was marked by collaborations with leading music directors and her ability to master various musical styles, from lively pop to soulful ghazals. Her achievements include seven Filmfare Awards and numerous national honors, solidifying her place among India’s musical elite.

In 2008, she was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second-highest civilian honor, acknowledging her immense contributions to music and cinema. Earlier, in 2000, she received the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award. Further international recognition came in 2011 when Guinness World Records officially named her the most recorded musician globally.

Her granddaughter, musician Zanai Bhosle, provided an update on her condition, stating, “My grandmother is hospitalized due to extreme exhaustion and is battling a severe chest infection alongside cardiac complications. Treatment is ongoing, and we remain hopeful for her recovery.” Zanai’s statement clarified that the singer’s health challenges extend beyond the heart attack, emphasizing the seriousness of her current state.
