Jennifer Lopez is making a notable return to romantic comedies, embracing the genre with renewed enthusiasm. The multi-talented star announced she is “back in my rom-com era” as she prepares for her forthcoming Netflix release, Office Romance.
Reflecting on her earlier success, Lopez shared a nostalgic Instagram post on April 10, featuring behind-the-scenes photos from her 2002 film Maid in Manhattan. The images, captured by photographer Barry Wetcher, show memorable moments with co-stars Ralph Fiennes, Stanley Tucci, Bob Hoskins, and Natasha Richardson. Lopez expressed deep fondness for those times, writing, “So many feelings! Such wonderful memories!” She added, “And now with Office Romance, I am back in my RomCom era. It’s OUR Happy Era!!!”
Set to premiere on Netflix this summer, Office Romance stars Lopez alongside Brett Goldstein, who plays her romantic counterpart. The film is directed by Ol Parker and features a strong supporting cast including Betty Gilpin, Tony Hale, Amy Sedaris, and Edward James Olmos.
While Lopez’s rom-com legacy includes beloved titles like The Wedding Planner and Monster-in-Law, she has indicated that this new project will adopt a bolder approach. In a conversation with Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live last year, Lopez described Office Romance as “a little raunchy,” aligning it more with edgier comedies such as Knocked Up and There’s Something About Mary, rather than the “sweet wholesomeness” characteristic of her earlier films.
In addition to her rom-com work, Lopez recently starred in Kiss of the Spider Woman and made an uncredited cameo in Anaconda. She is also set to appear in the upcoming film The Last Mrs. Parrish.
