In March 2026, Karachi experienced a surge in vehicle-related crimes, with more than 3,600 cars and motorcycles reported stolen or snatched across the city. The Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) recorded a total of 3,624 incidents involving vehicle theft and snatching during this period.

Of these cases, 3,467 involved motorcycles, while 157 concerned cars. The data further breaks down the motorcycle incidents, revealing that 3,027 were stolen outright, and 440 were taken by force at gunpoint from various neighborhoods. Similarly, 140 cars were stolen, and 17 were snatched under threat.

Meanwhile, residents also suffered significant losses in mobile phone thefts, with 1,265 devices reported stolen throughout the month. The crime report also highlighted other serious offenses, including 44 murders, six extortion cases, and one kidnapping for ransom.

In a significant development, Karachi Police dismantled a criminal gang involved in abducting children and coercing them into stealing mobile phones after drugging them. The case surfaced following the disappearance of 11-year-old Ayan from Korangi 100 Quarters, whose missing person report was filed at Saudabad Police Station.

Acting on intelligence, a police team formed under Senior Superintendent of Police Fida Hussain Jaffari successfully rescued Ayan. Two suspects, Sahil and Fatima, were apprehended during the operation. Ayan disclosed to investigators that he had been kidnapped, physically abused, and forced to consume drugs. He was also compelled to engage in criminal activities, including mobile phone thefts.
