Tottenham’s Mohammed Kudus Faces World Cup Doubt After Injury Setback

Tottenham Hotspur forward Mohammed Kudus has encountered a significant obstacle in his recovery from a quadriceps injury, the Premier League club announced on Thursday. This development is a major blow to the Ghanaian international as he aims to return to full fitness.

Kudus, 25, sustained the injury during a match against Sunderland in January, when Thomas Frank was managing Tottenham. Initially, he was expected to make a comeback in March. However, he has yet to feature in any games under Frank’s successor, Igor Tudor, who departed the club last month.

Reports from Ghanaian media indicate that Kudus will be sidelined for an additional three months, casting serious doubt over his participation in the upcoming World Cup scheduled for June and July. Tottenham, now under the guidance of Roberto De Zerbi, confirmed the setback in an official statement.

“Mohammed Kudus has experienced a setback in his injury recovery,” the club said. “Although he had recently resumed team training, he will now require further specialist evaluation and may need surgery.”

Kudus joined Tottenham from West Ham United during the recent transfer window. This season, he has appeared 19 times in the Premier League, scoring twice and assisting five goals. Tottenham currently sit 17th in the league standings, just one point above the relegation zone, as they prepare to face Sunderland on Sunday in De Zerbi’s first match in charge.

Meanwhile, Ghana, who dismissed their coach Otto Addo 72 days before the World Cup, will compete in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia. The tournament will take place across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, beginning on June 11.
