Patrick Ball Overcomes $80K Debt After Breakthrough Role in ‘The Pitt’

Patrick Ball has opened up about a pivotal moment in his life, revealing how his breakthrough role in the HBO series The Pitt transformed his financial situation and career trajectory. The 36-year-old actor emotionally shared that just months after joining the acclaimed medical drama, he was able to completely clear $80,000 in student debt.

Ball, who portrays Dr. Frank Langdon on the show, reflected on the heavy burden the loans had placed on him for years. He admitted that he once believed he would carry this financial weight for the rest of his life, describing it as a profound and overwhelming challenge. “It’s a huge burden to carry, and a lot of people carry it,” he said.

Before his breakthrough, Ball attended the prestigious David Geffen School of Drama at Yale University and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where he accumulated significant debt. The financial strain affected many areas of his life, including his personal relationships, which he said often suffered due to his unstable circumstances.

In a significant development, just six months prior to being cast in The Pitt, Ball was seriously contemplating leaving acting altogether. While living in New York, he balanced four different jobs to stay afloat, including working at a coffee shop, a restaurant, and serving as a wardrobe assistant on the series And Just Like That…

Everything changed when he received the call to join The Pitt. Premiering in January 2025, the show quickly became one of HBO’s most notable dramas, earning critical praise and multiple awards. Each episode depicts one hour of a 15-hour shift at the fictional Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center, offering an intense and gripping portrayal of medical professionals’ lives.
